Adopted at the age of 1, Olivier set out to do something big.  Maybe it’s in the nature of us adopted kids to keep the bar high… to show that we are worth it.  Whatever it may be, Olivier showed the fashion world that “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”  Much love to all my fellow adopted kids out there.

Rousteing began his career designing at Roberto Cavalli, soon taking charge of that destiny and becoming the head of the women’s division.

At 24 years old, Olivier Rousteing replaced Christophe Decarnin as the creative director of Balmain. His goal? He wanted to orient the label towards the finer aspects of French couture.  Goal one. Check.  Goal two.  Check, check.

Rousteing was a relatively unknown designer, breathing a breath of fresh air into the label.  Keeping things new, fresh, and edgy- he has been credited with adding an Asian influence to the clothing. Rousteing says his age and especially race ignited some haters amongst the fashion world (what else is new?) People were like, ‘Oh my God, he’s a minority taking over a French house!’ ” Rousteing told Out magazine in 2015.

Olivier’s drive, coupled with his celebrity status among the likes of the Kardashians, Victoria’s Secret supermodels, and Queen B herself, has catapulted Balmain to a whole new level.  Once only a stand-alone boutique located in Paris, Balmain has now expanded to London and Soho.
